Most familiar to television audiences for his two year stint as Michael Gallant on the hit series "ER," Sharif Atkins was born in Pittsburgh and raised in Chicago. As a high school junior, he particpated in the summer theatre arts program at Northtwestern University. After completing the program he knew that he, not only wanted to attend Northwestern, but wanted to be an actor as well. He enrolled in the university and received his Bachelor of Science degree in speech.
After graduation he remained in Chicago and performed in numerous stage productions including "Love Talk," "Words on Fire," "Let the Circle Be Unbroken" and "Henry V." He also appeared in the local series "Early Edition."
One day Atkins decide he needed to move to Los Angeles to pursue his dream. He drove cross country and moved in with a friend from college. He quickly found a manager and began working. His film credits before his leading role in "Paved With Good Intentions" include "Out of Exhile" and "Light It Up." He also performed as a guest star on "That's Life," "The District" and "Arliss."
Sharif most rcently starred in NBC's sexy drama "Hawaii" playing Honolulu detective John Dedan - a recent transplant from Chicago whose arrogance and swagger caused him some problems on the job - and USA network's "The 4400." In his spare time Atkins plays basketball and loves a competitve game of Taboo.
